In the 1960’s my grandfather, a farmer, developed a passion for breeding Thoroughbreds at his farm a few miles from Belvoir Castle.
He had his own mares and used a variety of what was then the Hunter Improvement Society Stallions (HIS) and the progeny of these were then shown in Hand in Hunter Classes and went on to either go Showing under saddle, Point to Pointing or Eventing.
He had great success with his show horses as Lightweights and Middleweights both in Hand and under saddle, his pointers were often rather attractive but not the fastest! and he had a credible record producing eventers with a 4 star horse sold to the Swiss Event team.
He was fastidious about confirmation, movement, correctness of limbs and feet; forever sharing the importance of these not as traits for success in the show ring but for longevity as ridden horses in their future field under saddle.
After leaving Newcastle University I developed the same passion as my grandfather and having now been enjoying breeding horses for 11 years. We have had great fortune from with the progeny from our yard in Leicestershire and since we started Gemini’s home bred youngstock have won The PAVO British Eventing In Hand Championships (two year old), The British Equestrian Federation Futurity Overall National Champion (Dressage), The British Equestrian Federation Futurity Overall Reserve National Champion (Show Jumper) and we have had a Horse of the Year Show Cuddy Finalist.
We have had multiple winners & Champions in the Show Ring as Hunters, Sports Horses, Small Hunters, Sports Ponies and Show Hunter Ponies. In 2016 our first home bred competed at a British Eventing 3* Three Day Event.
We stand our own homebred stallion Classic Opera who was a 2015 Horse of the Year Show Cuddy Finalist and was unbeaten at County Level in his last season In Hand Showing. He won his age class and went overall Champion on every occasion that he was shown at County Level. He has a full Thoroughbred grand dam and his grandsire is also the sire of the 2016 BETA CIC*** Equi-Trek Bramham International Horse Trials Winner Chico Bella P who was also selected to represent Team GB for Eventing at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
